Golf Clubs Review

Rating 0.0/5 (0 vote)

2009 has proved an exciting year for golf equipment, with many golf equipment manufacturers unveiling new equipment ranges. New releases from Callaway, Cleveland, Cobra, Nike, Ping, Mizuno, TaylorMade, Top Flite and Titleist, amongst others, have led to a dazzling array of clubs on the 2009 market. Prices for full sets, including bag, start from around £200 for the cheaper models, up to £1000+ for the latest hi-spec clubs.

Beginners
A release from earlier in the year, the Top Flite XL 5000 set should prove ideal for newcomers to the game. Retailing at less than £200, this 15-piece set has received excellent reports from reviewers. It features a 460cc forged, graphite-shafted driver for weight reduction and improved accuracy. The long irons are replaced by 4H and 5H hybrids for ease of hit, along with 6-PW, with deep cut backs for better ball control. A mallet-type putter, with alignment stripes is also included, along with a durable stand bag. Reviewers compared the clubs favourably with those costing over twice as much, commenting on their quality and technological advantages. The only reported downside was the lack of a sand wedge, though this could be purchased later.

Ping G10 Irons
Ping G10 Irons are engineered from 17-4 stainless steel with extreme low toe weighting to increase the moment-of-inertia for added forgiveness and consistency. The large, perimeter-weighted head features a new cavity shape and wider sole. The centre of gravity is positioned away from the face and low in the club head to promote higher launching, lower spinning shots. By creating a new shape for the Custom Tuning Port, engineers stabilised the hitting area for consistent ball velocity across the club face. An elastomer CTP insert helps produce a solid feel and sound. The Ping G10 irons have a wide sole that provides forgiving ground impact and contributes to the high launch characteristics of the iron. Retailing at around £400, reviewers commented on a fantastic looking set, with a classic feel.

Ping G10 Driver
Ping drivers have always had a great reputation for a solid and forgiving feel off the clubface. Engineers optimised the G10 driver`s crown, sole and face structure to ensure maximum energy transfer to the ball. The 460cc driver features a larger profile with a taller face and deeper crown that produces a higher moment-of-inertia for greater forgiveness and increased ball velocity. Though expensive at around £240, reviewers enjoyed the solid contact, ball trajectory and added yardage.

Lady Golfers
Callaway golf clubs UK have produced a fantastic package set for lady golfers new to the game or the occasional high handicap player looking for better golf. This set consists of 8 clubs which incorporate Callaway Golf`s latest game improvement technologies. Each club provides draw bias weighting to help with ball striking, distance and to help getting the ball airborne. The set includes a "draw bias" all-titanium driver and offset stainless steel fairway wood to reduce fades / slices for improved accuracy. A hybrid club, with a low centre of gravity and thus easier to hit, replaces the long irons. The irons are replaced by "i-brid" clubs, with a wide sole design to cut through the rough, whilst helping with ball speed and trajectory. The chipper included in the set will aid getting the ball close to the pin from around the green. Its wide sole glides smoothly across the grass, minimising off-centre hits. The putter, with a 2-ball alignment aid, increases the chances of sinking more putts. The package includes a lightweight stand bag, in pastel colours, to appeal to lady golfers, along with matching headcovers and towel. Overall, an excellent package, retailing at around £350.
