In Golf My Way by Jack Nicklaus, he says "I understand that Bobby Locke, one of golf's all-time great chippers as well as putters, did all his chipping with a pitching wedge. Increasingly in recent years, I have come to rely on the sand wedge for a great variety of shots around the green. One reason for this one-club approach is that I can become more expert and confident in a hour's practice with one club than I could by giving, let us say, six clubs ten minutes' work apiece. I still use other clubs down to the five-iron for chipping, but I believe there'll come a day when I'll rely almost entirely on finessing the sand wedge and using just one other club -- probably a six-iron -- when I need an unusually long roll."
