Four Ways to Lower Your Handicap - Part I |
|
Tip of the Week

Hit More Fairways
Ever keep track of the number of fairways you hit on a single round? One? Four? Eight? As you know, it's easier to go for the green if you are on the short grass and not behind a tree or in a hazard.
Start keeping track and do these three things.
- Don't swing for the fences. Ease up on your drive swing and concentrate on a nice smooth swing instead of ripping the cover off the ball.
- Play the game you brought to the course that day. If you are slicing your long clubs, aim a bit left and let the slice work in your favor. Don't pretend you are going to have a straight drive by willpower alone.
- If you really want a 'lower score' put the Big Bertha back in the bag. Once in awhile pick up a nice 3-wood and hit a straight drive onto the fairway. So you're 10 yards back, you aren't looking for a lost ball in the forest.
Incorporate this into your mindset and your score will drop a few strokes. I guarantee it!

Tip of the Week

Guys, Here are three tips to put you in the fairway more often.
1. Slow your swing down
You are tempted to swing all out on the tee and go for the long ball. What you are doing is increasing the chances you'll hit a bad shot. In order to be in the fairway more often you have to hit the ball clean, not hard.
2. Aim to account for your drive tendency
If you tend to slice the ball, set up and aim left to account for our slice.
More often you will end up with the ball landing or remaining on the fairway than not.
3. Hit for accuracy
Sometimes you need to make a choice to be in the fairway. That means hitting a 3-wood and losing a bit of distance but gaining some accuracy.
If you choose to use these three tips, you'll give up a bit of glory but you'll shoot lower scores.
How would that feel?

Focus on Putting to Save Strokes |
|
Tip of the Week
|
|
Guys, How's your putting? I believe that improving your putting can be a fast stroke-saver.
Here's how to practice at home.
For many people, getting your putting stroke in the groove can be a frustrating event.
Learn to get your stroke in the groove - literally. First, place two straight edges on the floor separated by the width of your putter plus a few millimeters. A couple of pieces of wood will work, so will two issues of your favorite golf magazine.
Place your ball in the center of the groove. Then imagine a target 6 feet away. Draw straight back and accelerate through your stroke - DO NOT TOUCH THE WOOD.
Do this enough times and you'll have trained yourself to have a consistent stroke.
Why are you missing short putts?
1. Do you take the club back too far and decelerate at impact?
2. Do you peek at the hole because it is so close?
3. Do you rush your routine?
4. Are you afraid of missing?
5. Are you trying too hard--thinking too much?
6. Is your body moving or swaying during your stroke?
7. Are you hitting it too soft and coming up short?
You'll have good technique from the first tip today. That will give you confidence. Then you just have to step up to the ball, follow your routine, and strike with confidence.
You'll see.
