Focus on Putting to Save Strokes |
|
Guys, How's your putting? I believe that improving your putting can be a fast stroke-saver.
Here's how to practice at home.
For many people, getting your putting stroke in the groove can be a frustrating event.
Learn to get your stroke in the groove - literally. First, place two straight edges on the floor separated by the width of your putter plus a few millimeters. A couple of pieces of wood will work, so will two issues of your favorite golf magazine.
Place your ball in the center of the groove. Then imagine a target 6 feet away. Draw straight back and accelerate through your stroke - DO NOT TOUCH THE WOOD.
Do this enough times and you'll have trained yourself to have a consistent stroke.
Why are you missing short putts?
1. Do you take the club back too far and decelerate at impact?
2. Do you peek at the hole because it is so close?
3. Do you rush your routine?
4. Are you afraid of missing?
5. Are you trying too hard--thinking too much?
6. Is your body moving or swaying during your stroke?
7. Are you hitting it too soft and coming up short?
You'll have good technique from the first tip today. That will give you confidence. Then you just have to step up to the ball, follow your routine, and strike with confidence.
You'll see.
