Lets Deal with That Long Par 3
I was thinking about a local course yesterday and I remembered that the second hole is a 205 yard par 3.  205 yards!  Par three? I don't know the designer's name but I don't think I like him (or her
all that much. Here are some tips to handle these long par threes no matter when you
find them on your home course.

1.  Start by thinking of hitting the ball with 70% of a full out swing BUT make sure you have enough club.  You'll be more successful if you make a relaxed swing with good form, than if you try to get that extra distance with a hard swing.

Swallow your pride and take a 3 wood if you need one. Let the club do the work.

2.  Take two or even three practice swings. During the swings think about your tempo.  A proper tempo is an overlooked and very important key to a consistent long iron shot. This helps you whether your long par three is early in the round when you are tight or late in the round when you are tired.

3.  Calm your mind and block out any distractions. The last thing you do before you start your takeaway is to take a long look at your target landing area and take a mental snapshot of it. Then start your swing.

Don't let the distance or the space or any hazards enter your mind at this stage.

BONUS TIP FOR PAR THREES.

If you walk to the green and find your ball resting against the collar, consider using a hybrid club.

Your ball is on the collar if it's off the green on the fringe, but resting against the tall grass on the fairway.

A hybrid has more mass and should move through the grass much easier so you can make better contact with the ball.

A putter or wedge might be grabbed by the longer grass.

Expect the ball to jump off the clubface into the air but it will hold the line you expect it to when it is back on the grass.

Use the same backstroke length you would use if this was a putt.

Try it and let me know how it works.
